We are biologists.

We are people.

We are a community that cares.

Community Outreach

  • Education

We work to communicate our science with the public and to give people in urban environments the opportunity to connect with nature. Our programs in Flint, Michigan are tied to our research about the impacts of lead exposure on urban birds and highlight the urban ecosystem as being shared space between people and wildlife.

  • Opportunity

Everyone starts a new adventure from a different place. We recognize that not all students have had the same guidance, preparation or challenges to overcome in the pursuit of a career in the sciences. We accept students with little experience and allow them time to explore science and build an image of their place within it. We value above all else hard work, creative thinking and a thirst for knowledge. If you are interested in exploring research and joining our lab, tell us a little bit about yourself and what you are most curious about in this world. We’ll go from there!

  • Challenge

Research in wild places can be scary and uncomfortable. It can also be empowering and centering and is likely to become some of your most cherished memories. Our goal is to give people the skills, knowledge and support needed to explore wild places in the name of science. We participate in OSU’s FieldSafe program - developed by graduate students to promote field safety and increase awareness about sexual assault and harassment. We are working to bring field experiences to people without freedom - incarcerated populations - through an urban research project. We provide local and remote field opportunities for interested students! See our blogs for more field and lab stories from our community.
